from Forbes.com: Now those fans can get some real education with their zombies. AMC, the University of California Irvine and educational tech company Instructure are teaming up to offer a massive open online course to look at a broad range of scholarly topics through the lense of The Walking Dead.

The course will be offered free. The teachers are all from UC Irvine and include professors of physics, public health and social sciences.

The class starts Monday October 14th, the day after the new season premiers. Each class will use plot points from the previous night’s episode and clips from older episodes to enhance the lesson. The course will cover topics like how humans prioritize needs in a catastrophe, the role of public health in a pandemic and the science of hope.

The course is for fun, not for credit. It’s really an experiment to enhance fan engagement. Networks (cable and broadcast) are desperate to secure fans’ loyalty to their shows to keep them coming back week after week. This is the kind of outreach that can help keep the show sticky.

For Irvine, it’s a test to see what kind of results you can get from mixing pop culture with academics. Of course this wouldn’t be the first time pop culture had found its way into the curriculum.Georgetown University has a philosophy and Star Trek class. Both Columbia College in Chicago and Baltimore University already have zombie courses.

But those classes are more about the genres they are studying. The new Walking Dead class uses the show as a jumping off point to talk about topics from several different disciplines.

The course is expected to be one of the largest online courses in history. Massive open online courses (or MOOC) are the biggest thing in higher education right now. Many expect they will open up the best, most exclusive, educations to the masses for a fraction of the cost of actually attending a college like M.I.T. Classes like this one on The Walking Dead are a good way to get people to start getting comfortable with the technology.

You can sign up for the class here. It is set to run for eight consecutive weeks and is open to anyone in the world. Because the show airs at different times in different countries, instructors will put provisions in place to help avoid spoilers.

Ever been to the Greymuzzle section of the Furry 2 Furry forum. I swear every thread is the same things you hear about at Nursing Homes. How is your body falling apart, how has age effect you, how strong of prescription eye glasses do you wear, And the biggie do you dye your hair?

Really you know how old that makes them sound. I tried to make a post about video games it took 2 months before anyone to reply to it, and even then all the post where about how they still play. Not a word about what systems or even the games.

Technically a Greymuzzle is anyone over 30 or anyone who has more experience in the furry world they just know everything.

I don’t want to be critical but I swear I think the medium age of the Greymuzzle poster at Furry 2 Furry has to be 70 or older.

I maybe a Greymuzzle myself, but I am way too young for that section.

I just wanted to give you my readers a heads up on a so called artist that travels to fur cons looking for furries to rip off.

His name Edgar Martinez of Basset, WI at least as of Midwest Furfest 2012 where he ripped off a client of $50 and so far has resisted any contact to resolve this matter. With several fur cons coming up I felt it was best to give my readers a warning about this so called artist. Who if he shows up to this years Midwest Furfest will be arrested for petty theft. His client is just that pissed off and is prepared tp call the Rosemont Police if no refund is given. So be warned everyone.
