The F2F Saga continues on

This was recently posted by Michael Polletta on the F2F group on Facebook….and prepare to scream!!!

So, I got in contact with the hosters of the site. They were not helpful. Might any techy-furs out there be able to help? Does anybody know who was the direct hoster of F2F? Or, might we have to start getting phisical, and have people trying to track down Amok’s real world location, to either get ahold of him, or, in the worst case scenario, his computer with his paswords?

info: Thank you for choosing SoftLayer. A representative will be with you shortly.
info: You are now chatting with ‘Jeff S’
Jeff S: Hello, thank you for contacting SoftLayer. How can I help you today?
Michael: Hello Jeff S.
Michael: I am hopeing to find out some information about a forum website I often used that went dark
Michael: The person in charge of paying for the bills has seemingly disapeared, and those who used to be in charge said that softlayer will not allow anyone to pay for the site to be re-upped
Jeff S: Unfortunately we can’t provide any information on any site hosted within our network, unless you’re the direct customer for that site.
Michael: Even if I can tell you everything about it, and it has gone down?
Jeff S: What is that site?
Michael: Furry to Furry, also know as Furry2Furry, also known as F2F
Jeff S: What is the actual domain?
Michael: http://www.furrytofurry.com
Michael: Sorry, there you go
Jeff S: Unfortunately we can’t assist you with anything unless you can confirm a valid SoftLayer account ID.
Michael: The worry is that the old hoster has completly disapeared – all his accounts on other sites have not been active in about three months, he does not respond to e-mails, IM’s, or even phone calls, and were all worried that he might have died/gone into a coma or something very suddenly, and none of us would have known
Jeff S: I understand but unfortunately we can’t help with that unless the actual account owner contacts us.
Jeff S: Sorry.
Michael: Many members of the site donated the money to keep it going, and we are more than willing to pay money, and continue paying money, to keep the site up and running, and not loose its years of history
Michael: So, you have nothing there for if an account owner dies?
Michael: What if a previous account owner contacts you?
Jeff S: You would have to confirm the account details.
Michael: What would we need to confirm? And is there any way around this? I understand the need for security, trust me. I do know several groups that would love to fuck with this site, but I also know that the members of this site are trying everything they can to get it to work.
Michael: Would the ‘old acount owners’ idea have any weight?
Jeff S: I have no idea.
Michael: Well, could you check for me? I know you guys proberbly have a lot of buisness, but a paying customer is a paying customer, and we would gladly keep paying you more and more if we could get it.
Jeff S: Unfortunately no I can’t check for you.
Michael: Heck, would there be an option to re-create the site on a new address with all the information?
Michael: Wait, so you can’t tell me, and you can’t even tell me what you can’t tell me?
Michael: Is there any way to talk to someone higher up?
Jeff S: The site may not even be hosted directly with us, it’s likely it could be hosted with a reseller of ours…which SoftLayer doesn’t have access to check that.
Jeff S: We host numerous companies who offer simple web hosting that use our services.
Jeff S: That domain you gave me doesn’t pull up any accounts in our syste,
Jeff S: system.
Michael: So if something happens to the hoster, everything goes all FUBAR? Could you tell me if you do host it or not? I got your name from an old hoster of the site …
Michael: Could that mean it was deleated already?
Jeff S: Again that domain does not bring up anything in our system.
Michael: You know this whole hosting thing much better than I do. I am asking you, on a person to person level here Jeff, to please, help me find out how to make this run again, and bring back what small comfort many people have to their lives
Jeff S: That means the site is probably not hosted directly with us.
Jeff S: That means we can’t be of any assistance.
Jeff S: I can’t help find out where that site is hosted if it’s offline.
Jeff S: We don’t have access to the customer bases of our own customers.
Jeff S: Does that make sense?
Michael: So … you don’t even know who would have it? How could I find that out?
Michael: If I tried the waybackmachine, or whatever it’s called, would it be on the image of the site itself?
Jeff S: Sorry I can’t assist you with that. If the site isn’t hosted with us that means we don’t have any information on it.
Michael: Could you help me at all in finding out who does host it? Any advice you could give would be invaluable
Jeff S: Sorry I can’t, we have zero insight into that hosting of that website.
Michael: I’m not even asking for specifics anymore, I’m asking if you coul give me advice on how I could spend my own time and energy to find insgiht into the hosting myself
Jeff S: If I could give you any advice I would have.
Jeff S: I’m not trying to be difficult when I say we can’t help you.
Jeff S: I’m legitimately saying there is nothing more anyone here can do to help you.
Michael: Alright, one last question then
Michael: As a tech savy guy who can’t give up on this, what would be the next step you would take?
Jeff S: Sorry I can’t help you.
Michael: you can’t even tell me what you would do in my situation?
Jeff S: No because I’m in Sales. I’m not a web admin or anything like that.
Jeff S: Our Support team is reserved for paying customers so, unfortunately, they can’t help you either.
Michael: Oh, alright. Well, thanks anyways man.
Michael: Have a good day
Jeff S: Thank you, you too.
