We all seen guides of how to RP, hell I posted more than one of them. But this is not one of those guides, it’s more geared to not having a bad experience and I admit it’s aimed at those to either haven’t RPed before or those who like to RP and wonder what pitfalls there are out there. Which I know all so well, as I been in more truly bad RPs than actual good ones.
#1 Never Assume —- ANYTHING
Recently I was asked to do an RP one about transformation. The plot interested me, but not the sexual advances of the other player who just assumed too much. So ask first if they even like to do a yiffy RP, and if you have a certain kind in mind ask first!!!
#2 Character Profiles
I noticed this one on a couple of RP’s asking for a outline of your character so the other players can follow. Which I agree can help…but I also seen them go way too far as in asking about the other players genitals. No joke I seen that happen, and it did happen to me. I told them I refuse and that ended it. Just remember if you feel uncomfortable about answering any of the questions it’s time to end it.
#3 Having the time to RP
Which can be a problem for most of us and our busy schedules. Just remember an RP will take time, especially if you want to come up with something the other player can work with. If you just don’t have enough time, don’t even start one.
#4 Content
This one is one of my pet peeves when it comes to RPs. I seen some who won’t let you add anything to ones like me who welcome input. As it is hard to keep a good RP going. Always ask if you can add stuff, before the RP starts. It’s a really good idea.
#5 Freedom of Movement
You wouldn’t think that is a problem in RPs…but it is. There are some who literally won’t make a single move without permission. To the opposite extreme who will refuse outright to go beyond a limited area. I consider these kind of players the worse. Because they limit what you can do. Don’t be this kind of player PLEASE!!!
#6 Finish what You Start
One of the down right strangest RPs I was ever in was one where they wanted to place it in a the world of this nsfw webcomic. If that wasn’t strange enough, the next thing I knew I was running it…HUH?!! Keep in mind I knew nothing about this short lived webcomic, especially of that world, with a partner who absolutely did not want to do a thing…no joke. Nothing save to go around a tiny space. You can see way it’s on this list.
#7 Don’t EVER Restrict the Other Players EVER!!!
Oh dear GOD one of the worst RPs I was ever in I and my partner were escaped slaves in Ancient Egypt. Being a history buff I knew this could be interesting. Then my partner added magic on their own and every time I made an attempt to get the story moving. They literally blew it up. It was the only case I was ever happy someone got banned from a forum about lying about there age.
