I been checking out the cellphone signal issues in Rosemont recently. Pacifically the area in and around where MFF is suppose to take place. This comes about mainly due to the fact over the last 2 years I was suppose to meet 3 people down there. 2 at MFF and 1 at the recent Acen. Where unless I was near the expressway I was unable to use my cellphone period. I simply could not get a signal, not even a single bar. But yet during a recent trip, where I walked through the convention center only to find I was able to even use my phone to access the internet, as well as make calls. This was during the recent World’s Fair of Money gathering. Keep in mind the crowd their wasn’t as big as it is during Acen or MFF. With a few 100, and not the 1,000s that are there for the bigger events.
I have come to one conclusion. The reason most of us can’t get a signal unless we use wifi, too many cellphones are in use. The amount of people trying to use their cellphones at the same time just overwhelms the systems for the various carriers. Verizon does have a leg up with an extra tower near the hotel though.
My conclusion is simple, if you can’t get a signal, use the free wifi.
