Getting Caught in the Middle of Furry Drama

Yesterday I found myself in the midst of furry drama, when someone was going on in a Fb post of how the fandom has been going downhill over the last 10 years. A fact which I disagree with, yes the furry fandom has seen more members. Each one brought to the fandom what is already on their plate. In other words, they are who they are and just because they now call themselves a Furry nothing is going to change that.

Maybe it’s just me, I look to the brighter side of things. It’s not because I am always a happy furry. It’s just I look to the fandom and it’s members to bring something new to my otherwise DULL life. I go to as many local furry events as I can, been to a couple of anime cons, and would only miss Midwest Furfest if I was on my death bed. I love that con, I had so much fun at MFF 2015.

Speaking of which I something hear how furries can get burnt out on fur cons. Then you always hear how many they go to in a single year. I am not kiddin’ I seen some furries who have stated they travel from one fur con to the next. Some go to as many as 6 to 9 a year. If I went to that many cons, I would get burnt out on them too.

So is there an easy answer to furry drama. A good sense of humor always helps. Besides if anyone tells you to piss off you can unfriend them.

Rainfurrest Update

Frankly I been waiting for them to update their site to pass along news and hopefully changes to the Fur Con as none of us what to see Rainfurrest 2016 Implode like the one for 2015 did.

First of news of where this will take place.

The hotel team is in final negotiations (according to their original post on their official site), and we expect a final contract any day now. RainFurrest 2016 is scheduled to be held at the Spokane Convention Center from August 25 to August 28, 2016. For rooms, we have a contract with the Davenport Grand, a brand-new hotel in downtown Spokane, just across the street. The convention is a go!

Other than the usual hype for any convention do I see any changes.

I found some and I hope it means they are finally getting a handle on things

Link to Registration page

If you follow the link and scroll down you will see something that honestly took me by surprise.

It seems below where you follow the links to register they posted this.

Some panels and events require additional proof of age and/or a specific ticket.

Proof of age?!! Really I am delighted by that news considering the rumors I hear of minors being allowed where they should not be in 2015. This is really great news. Now if they follow up on it. I really wish I could be there to see what really happens.

SAN FRANCISCO FURRIES NOW TARGETS FOR ROBBERY

as originally posted on brokeassstuart.com

This is obviously the kind of news people rely on BrokeAssStuart.com for.

This morning I received an email from Smashwolf, a local Bay Area Furry, saying that he and his friends are being targeted for robberies. when asked Smashwolf defined Furries as, “Fans of ‘anthropomorphic’ animals (animals with human traits like in a cartoon). Some of them take on an alternate identity and dress in costumes of that identity. These costumes are custom made, very individual, and very personal”

Of course this makes a robbery both a personal loss and a financial one. Here is the email:

I’m a furry. There are a lot of us in the bay area. A couple times a month hundreds of us gather in SoMa night clubs to go to dance parties, often in our costumes.

We are now targets. Actually our costumes are. Thieves steal them, breaking into cars. They are indeed worth a LOT of money. However , they are not an off-the-rack item They are each custom made for each person. They are so niche that selling them would only bring real money if other furries buy them. And then the stolen ones would be notice.

The thievery from autos in SF has gotten out of hand when furry animal costumes are a target, and a wallet is left behind.

It’s time SFPD actually take charge of this and actually investigate these cases. When a $4000 costume that is a unique piece of art is stolen from the locked trunk of a locked car, something needs to be done. The car break-in are just getting too out of hand.

The most recent robbery is of a purple and blue giraffe character named “Zarafa”.

Smash asks that “if anyone sees it at a pawn shop, flea market, thrift store, or in a ditch, they will know it needs to find its way home.” If you see it, you can get ahold of Zarafa’s owner by emailing zarafagiraffe@gmail.com. His owner is heartbroken so please keep your eyes peeled.

Editor’s Note:

This is no laughing matter, due to the cost of an average fursuit, stealing one can be considered Grand Theft. One one who stole Zarafa fursuit would be facing the same charge as if they stole a car.
