The Decade The Fandom Went Corporate
Gizmondo has this great article on fandoms in general terms and how corporations looked at fans of their Intellectual Property. Which is a balancing act until to itself as sometimes fans with their work borders on copyright infringement.

The line doesn’t seem to be between curatorial and transformative fandom anymore. The last ten years have merged both into exercises in consumptive fandom. The new world of fandom is the difference between whether your fandom is for other fans or for the creators and corporations. In other words, instead of the dividing line being what you consume, it’s now about who you are paying. Are you supporting fellow fans or the megacorporation?

Remember FurBuy?
I know at some of you must have been to FurBuy at least once, or have at least heard the name. I have used the site a couple of times to expand my collection of furry fanzines. It was yesterday when I went looking for some more on Google (which is how I find them sometimes) that I noticed they had one I don’t own on FurBuy and this is what I saw.

Scrolling down a bit I found out why

So what will happen

So no wonder the site looked as if it hadn’t been updated in a decade, it hadn’t.
