My Very 1st Fur Con: So what about next Year?

To answer the question: YES!! I am going back next year, I plan on staying longer and doing more. I had a GREAT TIME!!!

I put it down to being so nervous I really didn’t look at the schedule all that well. I only discovered after the fact there was this writer’s workshop I really wish I attended. Also my friend told me the next day about ‘That Kickass” Furry Variety show.

So I decided on a couple of things besides following my own suggestions and that is try and meet other furs, and especially try and do more down there while I am there. Now for blog worthy news, I also decided that from this year forward every time I attend Midwest Furfest I am going to report on something that I hadn’t talked about before, ask anyone who has been there and they will tell you I missed quite a bit. Look for my next report this time next year.

My Very 1st Fur Con: Floor Wars and random thoughs on Midwest Furfest 2013

Floor Wars was incredible, and I know I already said that, but OMFG!!! They all were amazing, then to pull off their moves while dressed in a full fursuit WOW!!! I cheered so much it left me with a bit of a sore throat. To me even the losers were winners *Standing Ovation* to all the dancers.

Random Thoughts

WOW!!!! After all that I said I bet your wondering if I could say any more. Lets start with con myths by simply stating the fact.

Only about 24% of con goers wore fursuits and even then I would say about 5% were partial suits

But maybe as little as 9% wore ears and or tails.

The rest where like me in their street clothes, and that is a fact.

Badges were a common site, I wish I had one made up for my fursona as you can get custom badges. But badges of every
description could be found there

Speaking of badges you can run out of space on your own clothes fast, I actually saw someone wearing over 20 badges they literally wore them everywhere. That is a problem I faced, you do need to bring something
with you (Because I did not see any vendor there that sells them) to hang your badges from, and that is a lanyard. You need to bring your own more than one if you plan on getting a lot of badges. The best place to find those is college book shops.

Bags: No wonder I saw some brought backpacks. No one including the con when I picked up the con book and guides to what is in the area gives away bags. You need to bring one, if either your planning to get a lot of stuff or have to haul what ever you get a long distance like me, you will really need one.

Lets bust the biggest myth of them all that cons aren’t kid friendly. I saw at least 10 kids under the age of 12 there at the con; With their parents and or guardians.
And you know what, they were having a great time like the adults.

Next week I’ll be posting photos I took of the Fursuit Parade call it the best of the best. Meanwhile you can take a look at the photos I took in my online album at Photobucket all 94 of them, it was hard picking out just a handful.

But in the meantime, tomorrow I will be wrapping up my coverage of Midwest Furfest 2013

My Very 1st Fur Con: Dealer’s Den and places to eat

I would honestly suggest go through Dealer’s Den and the spaces they have to sell art literally more than once before you buy anything. For that is what you will find anything and everything furry you can imagine from art, tails, hats and all sorts of everything including collars, T Shirts, buttons and more quality stuffed animals than you’ll find at any Toy R Us, and more.

Just remember the good stuff starts at $40 and only goes up.

Speaking of expensive the food at the Hotel, think $20 and up. I admit the deal they have at the American Grill at the Hyatt is $15 at the buffet and it is all you can eat. But soft drinks are $3.30 extra and that’s all you can drink, just remember your con badge gives you a slight discount. But it is excellent.

Come back tomorrow for a look at Floor Wars and random thoughts on Midwest Furfest 2013

One Fur’s Warning about a Crooked Artist

It is my policy if someone a legitimate complaint about someone defrauding any furry to post that complaint along with the original link

From digidude86:

last year attended Midwest Furfest and I commissioned Darius Koopa to do a drawing of my fursona, the table he set up was pretty convincing so I hired him, I paid $50 CASH up front and we exchanged contact info, so Ive been talking to him on skype and for over 3 months after I paid him he still hasnt done my work and I started asking for my money back and he gave me this bullshit story that his room mates car needed $1300 worth repairs to make it safe, so I told him if he dosent return my money that I will file a police report on him and a few minutes later he posted on his FA page that I was a idiot and stuff and shortly after that he blocked me on skype, so I contacted the Rosemount Police Deportment about this issue and they said since the guy is out of state they couldnt do much and they told me if he shows up this year to the convention that I should confront him and ask for my money back and if he were to refuse they instructed me to call them and he would be arrested for petty theft, when I went to midwest furfest this year I did talk to the directors and reported him, after that I went to the artist ally and talked to a few people and Ive learned I wasnt the only one that got screwed over like this, he has pulled the same shit with alot of people at many different conventions around the county, if you see him at any convention or furmeet, DO NOT COMMISSION HIM UNLESS YOU WANT TO LOSE WHAT EVER HE CHARGES!!!!!!

Im writing this so you guys dont get screwed over like I did Darius Koop is nothing but a low life scammer, and I dont think hes a furry at all, from what I know furs dont do that kinda stupid ass shit to one another

My Very 1st Fur Con: Registration and The Fursuit Parade

Before you can go anywhere you have to register, and to do this is super simple at Midwest Furfest they had a row of laptops set up simply hit F5 or hit Sign In if it’s your first time and fill out the form. Which simply means the basic name, address, phone, email and fursona name. After which you speak to a person who takes your ID and verify your information your provided. Then they ask what you want, you pay them. Then on to the next station where you pick up your badge with the name of your fursona. Which you asked to wear at all times, and they do check btw.

The Fursuit Parade

OMFG!!! The Huge Variety of fursuits and the pure imagination of those that build them is simply amazing.
Believe me the vids on You Tube do not do those fursuit parades justice. If your a true furry you have to see
them for yourself at least once in your life. You simply will be amazed.

But I suggest find a spot to watch the parade early, and take a couple of test photos or video to see if you
have to make any adjustments if you plan on doing either.

Come back tomorrow for ‘I wonder if I brought enough money’ AKA Dealer’s Den and places to eat.

My Very 1st Fur Con: 1st Thoughts

I admit when a saw that small gathering of fursuiters in front of the hotel when I finally arrived at Midwest Furfest I had a lump in my throat. It’s hard to describe my thoughts and feelings expect a huge feeling I was overwhelmed by it all. Call it way too much, way too fast.

I was to meet another fur whom was to be my guide, I rushed through Registration, and then
on to the spot they picked for the upcoming fursuit parade. Where I felt even more overwhelmed if that is possible.

As to the Fursuit parade itself, I was amazed by the wide variety of fursuits and the imagination of their creators in word ‘Incredible”

Then on to lunch in the American Grill, then on Dealer’s Den where my guide had to pick up some art they commissioned. Really I had little time to adsorb it all. I was to meet another fur there but I completely forgot and sent them my apology via Facebook.

Believe me, it takes more than words to relax when your overwhelmed by a factor of a 1,000.

I admit it took most of my time there just to relax, but really what did it for me was talking to this guy
in a dog fursuit. They even admitted they were nervous, even scared there 1st time. But there he was in this fursuit.

Then I saw the most incredible event possible, Floor Wars. Which in case you don’t know is a dance competition. In this case a 2 on 2 competition. With some of the most incredible moves I ever saw in my entire life. Standing ovation to everyone, especially the winners of the fursuit division Picture Perfect. The moves they pulled off, left everyone cheering…including me.

But overall I really did enjoy myself, and plan to go back next year.

Come back tomorrow for Part 2 Registration and The Fursuit Parade
