Hello birds of a feather, Sweetie here!
I wanted to communicate a little about our status here at Magpie Community Events. I personally send my apologies for any quiet we’ve had, as there has been some unintentional delays in anticipated progress with our conversion to non-profit. We’ve been floating in a bit of a limbo space of trying to finish our newly re-RE-written articles of incorporation. Our kind and generous lawyer who did us this favor the first time, (who is the spouse of another member of our Board) has had some prolonged, very untimely real-world stressor scenarios. With this, our conversion became a lesser-tier priority for not only himself, but also his partner, for quality of life purposes that are entirely understandable. I am not in the position to expose the very upsetting transgressions these two have faced, but hope that our community can be as compassionate to the needs these two have in lieu of immediate gratification. Despite this, I’m not excluded from this either– I had also transitioned through three different employers this past year to try to find a more comfortable means of supporting this project while still keeping Magpie’s endeavors in mind. (As for reassurance, this must recent one isn’t changing any time soon! *phew!*)
Our priorities have not changed, and I personally send my humblest apologies for any quiet we’ve had in the interim. As I type this, exciting discussions are still being made despite this period of inactivity, and a lot of our Team are just as stir-crazy as I am to get some of these ideas set in motion! Please, if you have a moment, send the Team your regards and support, as they’ve shown the most dedication and patience with me.
For clarification on donations- Any funds that have been donated have ONLY been only touched to help keep our site/emails/PO Box afloat. I (Sweetie) have been using personal funds to try to minimize the utilization of what was given so that we have more to work with for our following steps forward. Additional small assets have been purchased by myself from personal funds to also prepare, such as items to help in-home manufacture some small merch/thank you gifts, et al. I’ve also recently acquired some significantly helpful items as well! ..Although if y’all will still have me– Once we have completed and have been fully accepted as a non-profit, we’ve got a small wishlist of items I’d love to ask for the community’s help to network and possibly acquire through known sources and/or sponsorships (if you happen to have an employer who might be interested in charitable physical donations!) in the near future.
…We also have an exciting reveal of our first mascot, with the generous assistance of a dear friend. They’re a familiar, pointy face to many… but we’ll talk about that later, if that’s ok. ❤
Some musing thoughts until we can complete this reworking of our articles of incorporation:
I’ve seeked consult with some incredible, experienced peers from another convention scene who believe in our project, in hopes of being mindful on how we proceed next. We’re also filing in a new Registed Agent!
The last thing I want to do is to keep putting even loftier and loftier goals out there when we’ve yet to test our wings. We are but a small, very human group of fandom folx who want to do this right, and having time to do this right the first time is very important to us. Thank you for trusting us so far.
..Finally, we are still grateful for the compassion you all have not only shared with our growth, but also to the culmination of Club Q donations, which still, couldn’t have happened without your rallying support. We did not need to be a 501(c)(3) to make that happen, and it means a lot to have had that amount of trust to accomplish that during all of this.
