MFF 2022 Dealer’s List

MFF finally posted a list of the Dealers that will be at MFF 2022. Usually this would not be a big deal except for their number… If I counted right it’s 254 Dealers

Like usual there are plenty to go around but here are ones I think are worth checking out

Awoo Comic, Books and potentially other small merchandise, such as stickers

CAMP HOWL; sells a variety of brightly colored apparel, including shirts, hoodies, and bandanas. They also sell accessories, including fanny packs, wallets, bracelets, lanyards, keychains, enamel pins, and more!

Dr. Wildlife, Zoologist focused on saving endangered species through creative solutions. Offering wildlife illustrations, one-of-a-kind pawprint casts & paintings, and nerdy apparel meant to inspire a deeper connection to nature. One-on-one career counseling and tutoring sessions will be available for sign-up as well as information regarding educational class offerings on Twitch.

NomadiCon – Nashville’s 18+ furry con!; We are a new furry/anime/pup/etc convention coming to Nashville. It’s adults-only, designed to break the mold from different events. We do not sell products at the table. It will be interesting to see what they have to offer.

Wooperworks; offer commissions finished at-con (including regular badges, sushi badges, googly-eye badges, and boba tea badges) as well as prints, stickers, buttons, and charms. Common themes include cute animals, Pokemon, sushi, and Egyptian mythology!

Those are just a few stand out for me

MFF 2022 Charity: The Street Dog Coalition

We would like to welcome The Street Dog Coalition as our official charity for Midwest FurFest 2022! Learn how they help pets of those experiencing homelessness and how you can donate to this year’s charity auctions:

A few MFF Board members mentioned this was a hard sell. But to me it is an easy choice, mainly because during my commute I see homeless with their pets, and whenever possible I give them some money. Why because I know unlike the other homeless I see I know they are going to use it for drugs or alcohol. They need it to survive as well as fee their pet, usually a dog. Who as a former pet’s buddy, I know they love them more than I ever loved Jake or any of the other dogs in my past. For the simple reason they need them to help them survive.

I really plan to as them for something I can hand out to these homeless with pets. More than just a handout.

MFF 2022 Registration OPEN!!!

Happily earlier than last year and very thankfully zero issues. Some might notice the price increase, but everything is more expensive these days… so are fur cons.

You can Register though this LINK

MFF 2022 COVID Policy

Usually I don’t post COVID Updates for lately it’s either been mask optional or the same old, same old rules we are all pretty much use to at this point.

Then MFF dropped this one, for the record I know someone who hadn’t got the booster. But it is also the same one who introduced me to MFF in the first place. I wonder what they like others I have seen in social media are actually going to do.

Also for the record I am ready now. Got all of my boosters and am ready for the one they said was coming past Labor Day.

So will you be ready?

MFF Registration: Why things went so smoothly at MFF 2021

If you were at MFF 2021 you would notice something that you never saw before. It was just around noon on that Friday when the Registration was nearly empty. Oh sure some complained, and improvements do need to be made… but it was the fastest I ever seen.

Tim Woods who is in charge of MFF’s Facebook page explained why recently.

Speaking for myself and from my own perspectives and opinions alone I can say:

As “VP” for SEI, the Software arm of MFF’s parent corporation, I know and can share that MFF uses the same registration system as MAGFest, which easily accommodates 24k attendees with minimal lines.

Having been in a position of leadership (Chair, Vice-Chair, Lead, etc.) for a number of years, I saw that the problem was many-fold but I share your opinion that summarizing it as “scalability” is reasonable.

2019 was a failure, the convention admitted it, apologized, and committed to fixing it the next year… But of course, “next year” didn’t happen. Regardless, I can say that I was a small part of a team of dozens who worked on this. And the solution wasn’t fewer attendees in 2021… The solution was a commitment to addressing the problem, regardless of time, money, energy, etc. The convention could NOT continue to be enjoyable for our friends both new and old, without this problem being solved. And so all necessary resources were, and continue to be, poured into making sure that registration lines are a thing of the past at MFF.

Of course… Again, not speaking for the convention but for myself… I think that actions speak louder than words and only time will tell if the sacrifices made, were the right ones.

It’s really good to know that they are improving the system and lets hope MFF 2022 goes even better.

MFF Changes Theme GOH Announced

AC Stuart does the Awoo comic I hope to get my book autographed at the next MFF

If you happen to check their site LINK it’s already updated plus there are links to photos of previous MFFs. I know this is pure speculation on my part, does this mean Registration will open early?

MFF 2021 Wrapup

In a statement released by MFF

In these unprecedented times…

No, wait.

We’re all really tired of hearing that.

Anyway, it’s been a rough two years for everyone. After going virtual in 2020, we at Midwest FurFest approached the 2021 convention with a mixture of hope and trepidation. Our goal was to provide something of a respite for all of our friends and to continue to celebrate the furry fandom in FurFest’s own unique style but in a manner that was safe and responsible as well.

It is a pleasure to say that we achieved all of this and more, as we welcomed a grand total of 9,332 (vaccinated and masked) attendees. We are grateful not only for all of our friends who journeyed to Rosemont to join us, but also for the approximately 450 staff and volunteers (working onsite and remote) who helped make the convention happen.

Our charity this year was Mission Companion Paw (MCP) Rescue + Outreach. Through the generosity of our attendees, we were able to raise $74,303. These donations will help them continue their work of finding homes for hard-to-adopt dogs, providing pet food donations to food pantries, and directing families to low-cost spay and neuter services.

We would like to recognize everyone who organized and participated in the following events which helped raise money for this charity:

  • Charity Table Jar: $7,335
  • Credit Card/Venmo Donations: $2,758
  • Charity and Silent Auctions: $5,344
  • Furry Logic Escape Room: $1,000
  • Donations from Programming Event: $2,760
  • Hyatt Regency O’Hare – Themed Drinks at Red Bar: $1,130
  • Cash donations at Closing Ceremonies: $7,976 (WOW!)

Thanks again to everyone who made this possible. You have all made a tremendous difference in the lives of MCP and the people and animals that they serve.

After two years in orbit, Midwest FurFest 2021: Intergalactic! has finally landed. We are already hard at work making plans for the coming year and we hope to see you December 1-4, 2022 in Rosemont, Illinois for Midwest FurFest 2022: Movie Magic!
