Netflix and Gaumont announce new comedy-action CGI animated series Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles based on the globally successful 35-year-old comic book, Usagi Yojimbo, from award-winning creator Stan Sakai.
The series takes place in the far future, set in a world that mixes modern high-tech images with classic Japanese references. It follows the teenage Rabbit Samurai Yuichi, descendent of the great warrior Miyamoto Usagi, on his epic quest to become a true samurai. But he isn’t alone! He leads a ragtag team of misfit heroes – including a roguish bounty hunter, a cunning ninja, an acrobatic pickpocket and a faithful pet lizard – as he battles depth-charging moles, metal-tipped winged bats, and monsters from another dimension, all in the pursuit to become the best samurai Usagi!
As some say about Netflix, it should rename itself Furflix as this will be the 5th Furry series on the service. Those are Bojack Horseman, Tuca & Bertie, Beastars, BNA: Brand New Animal.
Now about Samurai Rabbit AKA Usagi Yojimbo

To quote the official site
Usagi Yojimbo is set in a unique world. Based in 17th century Japan, it features Miyamoto Usagi who is a skilled swordsrabbit, and follows his many exciting adventures traversing this unique world. Yojimbo is the Japanese word for “bodyguard” as Miyamoto Usagi was the personal bodyguard for a Japanese War Lord. Usagi is now a “Ronin” wandering swordsrabbit. Honing his skills, saving villages, and oftentimes stumbling into delicate affairs of national/political significance! It’s quite clear that someone is writing his explosive life story.
It is loosely based on the legendary “Sword Saint” Miyamoto Musashi, who is famous for winning over 60 duels, the first of which was when he was only 13 years old.
Usagi Yojimbo has been written by the same person Stan Sakai for the last 34 years with over 30 volumes.
There is even a version of the story that is set in space, so it will be interesting to see what we actually get. Because of copyright law I cannot copy any of the official manga, but this does not prevent you from tracking down those works.
In my opinion given the quality of anime we have been getting of late and the stories I have seen online. Samurai Rabbit is going to be incredible.
I also recommend checking out Usagi Yojimbo fan art, if some of those were posters I have them up on my wall right now.
