Furry for Beginners part 2

This time we cover both the furry boards and Role Playing, which depends on who you talk to are one and the same. Why do I say this, it seems nearly everyone who calls themselves a furry also role plays, which can extend to such programs like AIM or YIM, furry chat rooms, and even within some forums (one with role playing sections for their members). Is it mandatory?…no from my experience not every one role plays. It’s more just a way to have a little fun and kill time while online.

Lets take when you joined a furry board, some actually require you state what are you are, meaning your fursona, for example wolf, dragon or whatever. I often found depending on the RP, is how much detail you have to go to. But you have to keep the character within the realms of that RP. Meaning no robotic superhero when you have one set in medieval times. But you have to also state if your in a world where battles could take place what weapons your character has. In other words make things quite clear. Also make it very clear that your character is either a man or a woman. This is important for relationships and possible sex your character might have at some point. One suggestion here let you fantasies guide your words, hey it’s a good way to see how others react to any move you have have with someone close to you in real life.

Courtesy is a big issue, never and I mean never try and be the boss of any one, or make suggestions about some one else’s character. Be apart of the action, not the dictator of it. It also does not hurt to message the other players, especially if you want to try something. To at least get their reaction, and depending on that is what guides your actions.

Also in some RPs where battles do take place, remember your not GOD, and let yourself to take a hit. Also if you wound someone else, let them decide if they live. That is just being polite.

Grammar: There is 2 sides to this issue Master Degree holders in English and the rest of us. I know I am not the greatest speller in the world and my grammar is not perfect either, but I do hold my own in the RPs I played and I have a spell checker installed in my browser which helps. and could help you out.

Format: Make not only your words clear, but there meaning as well. For example if your character is talking to someone, make it clear that if they are moving say so, the same applies to any action your character is just happening to be doing at the time. You don’t want to be one place then seconds later just happen to be somewhere else.

Forums are easy compared to some RPs. Why do I say this…not everyone can do a successful RP. In fact I have been in more failed RP’s than successful ones. I don’t want to scare you off from doing one, is just that most RPs run about 3 weeks before everyone seems
to get bored with them and no one makes any more new posts. I wish I could say there is a hard rule on what makes a good RP. But sadly there isn’t one. It’s a pure gamble when you either do or even start an RP, it either works or not. In fact the most successful RP I was in
lasted about 9 months. It ended when the person running it had to quit not only the RP but the forum it was in as well. Call it, this happens sometimes.
