On Jan 19th The US Justice Dept. shut down Megaupload claiming the file sharing site has aided piracy of copyrighted materials. What you may not know is Megaupload is based in Hong Kong. It seems the only reason the US Govt was able to shut Megaupload down was because 2 of it’s 5 servers are loaded in Virginia. The others according to reports are located in The Netherlands.
This has become a prime example of how the US wants to Police the Internet and of how a international company can say fuck you to the US. It seems Megaload is in the process of permanently closing down it’s US servers and moving everything that they can to 2 new servers also located in The Netherlands and out of US control.
So they may have those who ran the company in custody in New Zealand. With the news and shadow site appearing online, it appears Megaupload isn’t dead yet.
