Major / Minor Mobile Edition Review

In all my years playing games, I have never seen more reviews of a game that contradict each other more than one for Major/ Minor. I swear that there is an equal number of rave reviews as those who tare the game apart.

My view is neutral: I hold no prejudgment of the game. I saw a free download on Google Play and gave it a play.

So what do I think?

What I see is an interactive novel, oh sure the game has asked me about my opinion, and even my views. But I really don’t see any major effect on the game. I honestly feel that no matter which question save for 1 would have any effect on the game. Which in short is average, it isn’t horrible nor is it great.

If you want an interesting story, that is only slightly interactive then give it a try. The art for the game is great, otherwise, I gave it…

5 /10 AVERAGE

My Trip to Evansville, IN Part 4

At this point, there really isn’t much to talk about my trip to Evansville, IN. I used the same rule I have when dining at local restaurants if it looks clean…it should be okay. No matter where I went the food was good. I had real southern sweet tea, which believes me is far better than the crap we get around here. I had biscuits and gravy for the very first time and when done well that simple dish is incredible.

Call this what this is, things I wish I knew before I left for Evansville. Pick up more pamphlets about places that interest me in the visitor’s center.

Check out more places that have free wifi.

Don’t rely on Uber or Lyft in cities as Evansville serve is spotty at best. Like that incident at the LST. Also to place the number of a local cab company on my contacts list.

Use what is available to me to check out places that interest me. I found by accident on my very last day that there was a Flea Market barely a half mile from where I was staying. This one really kills me, there was a Mini Golf/ Laser Tag place almost across the street from the Flea Market.

Here I was driving myself crazy trying to track down a physical map, which I did pick up at the Visitor’s Center. Which I hoped before I left would help me with their bus system as they don’t have a system map. I only discovered on Sunday that their bus system uses the Double Map APP to not only show you the routes but the location of the buses. Aarrgghhh!!!

Well anyway, I had a great time and I seem more relaxed than I was before my trip.

Oh I also discovered their baseball team.

My Trip to Evansville, IN Part 3

To continue from yesterday

LST 325 – WW2 Landing Ship Tank

Was totally amazing, this history buff loved it!!! Not only did I learn about a ship that helped support the D-Day Invasion. But the unusual story of how it got to Evansville. On a personal note if I knew they actually cruised up and down Ohio River. I would have altered my own plans to possibly come early to be a part of such a cruise.

They even have one of the Jeeps used in the M*A*S*H movie

More details on Wikipedia

Reitz Home Museum

Was such a highlight for me, everywhere you looked both inside and outside that house you saw something you never have seen before like pre-1900 clothes drier.

Dream Car Museum

The word WOW!!! falls far short of how amazing this place is. I took over 200 photos, I don’t know how many my friend took. I don’t care if you are into cars or not….WOW!!!!

Them also having the fire truck used in the Emergency TV series was delightful

More tomorrow

My Trip to Evansville, IN Part 2

My first full day by myself with my friend at work started where my friend actually suggested the nearby Visitor’s Center.

But it was also a huge as it was located on the Ohio River

as well as 2 museums

The Evansville Museum

Which wasn’t open when I arrived at 11 AM it seems a lot of places in Evansville run on Evansville time. Meaning they open late or have odd hours. But it did give me a chance to check out their transport museum which was next door.

As far as museums go it’s small but it does have some interesting exhibits like the steam locomotive and historic train cars you can walk through but what I found the most interesting was this.

In case you are wondering what that is, it’s a hearse pulled by horses. I seen them in the movies more time than I could count but to see one in person was so cool.

When I finished the other museum was finally open. The Evansville Museum is small but they do have a nice collection. The Pioneer Village I really liked as you get to see the everyday items from the past you just don’t see anymore.

No that wasn’t all I did, I then went to Walton’s Comfort Food it’s a restaurant in the area. Back at the turn of the 1900s it was a carmaker.

Their outdoor bar is the coolest one I ever seen

My Trip to Evansville, IN Part 1

When a longtime friend asked me to come and see him in Evansville, IN I really knew nothing about Evansville. The more he kept on asking the more I finally thought about going. Besides, literally, everyone has told me directly I needed a vacation BADLY. I understood why with all the issues I have been through in the last 10 years or so I finally decided to go, and like everyone else in my situation I looked up Evansville online and frankly, it only helped me choose a few places I would later see. But about the city and what it was like not at all.

Greyhound was an experience unto itself. But when I arrived and my friend met me he gave me the primer on the city. He lived in Haynie’s Corner a sort of art district filled with historic homes, and the nearby Ohio River and Downtown. I swear you could miss downtown Evansville if you didn’t know what you were looking for.

Well anyway, Evansville is right out of the Andy Griffith Show. Meaning tons of old buildings, historic homes and a few modern places around like the Tropicana casino where I had breakfast once. In my opinion, Evansville, even though it does have a bus system (I don’t drive), is a place where you need a car to get around. Reason being nothing is close, save for a few places near Downtown which I will get into more details in my next article. My friend drove me around to go to Golden Corral and a few other places during my stay and my Google Map app said he drove 18 miles. All the trips he was able to take me all averaged the same distance. It seems most of the shops and restaurants are on the west side of town or to the north. Frankly, I wish I could have gone wondering more than I did but a combo of the heat and humidity and my curiosity of the neighborhood I was staying with kept me from wondering but my walks did average 3.7 miles I only found that out this morning.

Evansville and the people who live there is a friendly place, everyone including a cop I met on one of my walks often said, “HI” and where are you from. In case your wondering the officer actually gave me some good advice like checking out online when a shop was open as most don’t post there hours and what areas I might find interesting and what were the better restaurants. One that officer suggested was fantastic I never had biscuits and gravy and really excellent sweet tea before. As trouble as some cops can be that officer was more like a tour guide that police officer. Traffic is nonexistent most of the time, I swear you didn’t even have to look to cross the street. There are a few traffic signals near downtown but not as many as you think. They don’t even have Traffic Reports on the local news. Road Rage never heard of it down there. Jobs…I actually saw 11 Help Wanted signs during my stay, all average $14 an hour plus benefits. Food was cheap you could get an avocado of 99 cents, in Chicago, it averages $1.79 to $2.50. I was able to pick up a 6 pack of bottles of soda for $2.49 and it wasn’t on sale. My friend had a nice large 1 bedroom apt for now get this $525 a month. You could actually get a large 5 bedroom home here, with stable and swimming pool for under $300,000 there.

I am just stating the facts.

It was really nice down there and I am thinking of a return visit in 2019 but this time I will be prepared more, like getting that app on my phone to update my blog. I also missed a few places.

Extra

Thrift stores down there are amazing. When I say thrift store furniture you know what I am saying, cheap, tacky furniture near the end of its life. But down there like new, stuff you would see either on Craig’s List or Ebay and I have new found respect for Habitat for Humanity Restores there stuff is amazing. I could refurnish my entire apartment down there with less month than my landlord charges for rent…including getting a better stove than what is sitting in my kitchen right now.

Nothing Ever Goes As Planned

Here I was planning to do so much and it comes down to 3 articles. Here is the first

I know the first thing you must be asking is why did I goto of all places Evansville, IN. The short answer is I went to visit a longtime friend who moved down here several months earlier in order to find work. In fact, they have been after me for some time to make the journey down here.

But this is fur is afraid to fly, hell I get nervous just at the airport. I swear if If I even stepped on board an airplane it would be brown trouser time. So having limited choices and since I do not drive I took Greyhound, it only took 12 hours including a layover in St. Louis that was very memorable for both good and bad reasons.

I started this journey in Chicago, my base of operations for most of my life. The trip to the Greyhound station was uneventful. Neither was my check-in, by the time it was time to board my bus. I was one of 3 passengers at the start of this journey. Of course, we picked up more passengers as the trip went on. You soon realize that there must be a connection between Greyhound and McDonalds. Reason being almost every stop we made was at one….I swear.

Really the most memorable event of the entire journey took place in St. Louis of all places. Seeing the Gateway Arch at night, next to where the St. Louis Blues play, will be something I will never forget. Like that incident at the station which is a combo station with local rapid transit, Greyhound and Amtrak. Well, what happened was this, they was a layover which meant I had to get off the bus. But when it was time to reboard it turns out I needed my ticket, which the driver took at the start of the journey. Which meant at 2 AM when all of this took place I had no choice but to get a replacement ticket. Which and I give Greyhound all the praise they deserve, especially the agent working the overnight shift. I got a replacement ticket and was finally allowed to reboard.

Other than that the only things I can mention. There were hours on this journey that you didn’t see a single light bulb. Meaning as urbanized as we think this country is that there is really a lot of open space out there. Not so much as a single farm, the same country the pioneers actually saw.

Now let that sink in.

Really the only other problem I experienced was passengers laying across the aisle in order to stretch out. Which just made it impossible to use the restroom at the end of this journey.

Anyway despite any delay we might have had we actually arrived on time.
