Furry Planet by Joe Strike Review

Ever buy a book knowing that you like it. That is Furry Planet to me. I read Furry Nation and found out so much about the fandom I have been apart of for more than a decade fascinating.

So what is Furry Planet? Okay I kind of assumed it was going to talk about fur cons outside the US. Which it does briefly, I love the section on John Oliver who made a name for himself in the fandom over Rat erotica by Alice The Rat. As well as other movies and TV series that feature Anthro characters.

I disagree with the chapter on both Flayrah and Dogpatch Press. Although they are the biggest, there are plenty of sites like mine. Small one furson operations for the most part reporting on the furry fandom.

The following is a list of furry news sites that I know about.

Furnews.eu

Furry News Network

Pink News

Digging Up Positivity by Thabo Meerkat

FenFen

Furry News Texas

Fox and Burger Podcast

Nightzy

As well as

Furry Times

GFTV

I would of rather seen an article more focused on any one of these. As we often post news worthy articles sometimes more than a month before either Dogpatch or Flayrah even mention what happened.

I like to remind everyone I did interview both Fred Patten and Joe Strike before they did

The section on the Military furs was really nice

The same for mentioning books and their authors. Frankly there is so many books out there it’s hard to know what to pickup. Some of these will be on my to buy list.

I think the section on Bronies in general was fair and unbiased. Which was the 1st of 3 uncomfortable topics. All were treated the same.

Speaking of uncomfortable what about the furry plays that pop up time to time. I am aware of 3, 2 because tickets were advertised on then Twitter and Facebook, and here. The other by Jay Naylor was by accident. None ever lasted that long, but it brings up a question.

Are Furries Mainstream? I swear will actually start a fight. It too was covered and frankly we are as mainstream to almost the same point as anime and scifi fandoms.

I am happy to see the new furries as well as the Greymuzzles we are all 1 fandom and surprisingly enough we all get along.

Like I said it’s a good book, with nice insight.

Although I do disagree about the causes of the MFF Gas Incident. Officially for the record it was an accident. Let me remind everyone that neither Dogpatch or Flayrah had anyone there, and they even mention this is THEIR original report. I was there and have the badge to prove it, as well as photos. I did conduct my own investigation, and am leaning towards accident. I did order a copy of the records of that incident under The Freedom of Information Act. To confirm some facts, but will let you know what I found.

Furry Planet is worth buying, I give it a very solid 10 out of 10. It’s a good over view of the fandom, and might help you discover something you did not know about.

For me it was on his list of music videos featuring anthros, that I discovered one that I missed.

It’s available through Amazon and other sellers
