Anime Review: Samurai Champloo

It is as different from the anime most watch as possible it begins with a chance meeting of these 2 samurai who want to kill each other and this 15 year old girl looking for a samurai that smells like sunflowers. Really that is the plot.

My description is backed up by Wikipedia which goes in to more detail

A young woman named Fuu is working as a waitress in a tea shop when she is abused by a band of samurai. She is saved by a mysterious rogue named Mugen and a young rōnin named Jin. Mugen attacks Jin after he proves to be a worthy opponent. The pair begin fighting one another and inadvertently cause the death of Shibui Tomonoshina, the magistrate’s son. For this crime, they are to be executed. With help from Fuu, they are able to escape execution. In return, Fuu asks them to travel with her to find “the samurai who smells of sunflowers”.

It’s really a fun series to watch as every episode is so different you really can’t even guess of what trouble these 3 characters will get into or who they meet. Everything from Elvis type characters, to an artist, and even terrorists. They get out of the last one by burning the terrorist supply of weed. Really I am not joking, they do that and more. Yes, everyone does get stoned.

Fun series, great action, a good mix of both and more. I could go on and on on why this is such a great series.

Here is a video of short clips

If you like what you see the DVDs are fairly cheap I picked up my copy for $23 and the series is available for viewing on crunchyroll

‘It’s the craziest thing I’ve ever done’

BCRNews recently did this great article on Tom Anderson a man who even after he owns a fursuit still can’t quite accept the fact that he is a furry. They talk about his first experience at a con and ironically we share the same one MFF 2013, but there are experiences are quite different. But I’ll you discover that for yourself.

Really Armbands?!!!

Really this began as a piece I decided to post on my Facebook page of how the Furry Raiders (at least some of them) behave badly and of how they should for the sake of peace drop that armband. The reason I mentioned armband is that a growing number of places armbands are totally banned. Not just cons, business have them banned as well.

My original Facebook post

Last night I read a piece on the Furry Raiders saying they are misunderstood. But given everything I have heard and seen, you know who is there own worst enemy….THEMSELVES!!! Look you can say someone is lying who might have issues with them. But the things I heard came from friends, one who witnessed an incident at the very last RMFC, and they showed me the video. Look I won’t go into details but…seriously if they want people to given them the benefit of the doubt they have to start acting better. I saw what started that incident with Deo on Twitter, and frankly I can’t blame Deo for reacting the way they did. That is just one example of dozens I could give where no raider is thinking before they react. People expect bad manners from it’s members and that is what they see. There is this incident with their leader Foxler where they went into this rant, which I will not repeat here. That was filled with things I rather not say. Yet another example of not thinking. Like the armbands, please drop them. I know it’s your symbol but there are a growing number of cons where they are banned without exception. Also given the current level of hate, it would be nice to see them take it down a notch. Also please behave better, it reflects badly on furries in general. Speaking of which I did a bowling event on Sunday and I was told by a member of their staff, that armbands were banned there too. So please drop those stupid armbands.

Believe me I respect Perri Prinz, I think they are a great commentator…but really this…

To drop the armband is dropping freedom of speech and expression. And anything you hear from the Colorado Furs group is suspect. They aren’t exactly impartial. I’ve never seen this video you speak of where they do something bad, but you won’t say what it is.

Editor:
For the record the video I mentioned was privately shown to me. Believe me I don’t blame them for doing so, given the feeling some have for the Raiders.

Then C.C. Nelson posted

Armbands are not freedom of speech if being used to instill fear and/or hostility. Freedom of speech does not ignore legal consequence. Example, If I go to a mega church and talked about how all the furries are pedophiles, get the crowd riled up, and inform them that there is Furry convention in town and someone should “do something” before one of there kids get molested, I am and should be open some legal ramifications of that action if a churchgoing then immediately goes down with guns in hand and kills a whole bunch of Furries. Aside from that argument, many conventions are STILL private events held by 501c, LLC, etc organizations as well as the Hotels that host them. They are BOTH legally allowed to curtail or ban individuals due to “disruptive behavior” outside specific subsets. Sadly, these armband DO specifically try to mirror a nazi style insignia . The raiders have been asked to change iconography to any number of different colors, graphics, and placements that are significantly different but have refused because they keep “needing” a standard that looks similar to Nazi iconography. The effect there are going for is clear.

It’s just a stupid piece of cloth, it’s not like it is a flag. Really get a life

Furry Broadcasting Network Overview

Look really I don’t mind giving someone like the Furry Broadcasting Network who is attempting to cover furry news to compete against the big 2 a huge shout out. But the more I read off their Twitter Feed here is the more I think they have no idea what they are getting into. Then to go into Internet Radio, just makes me shake my head. A podcast say on YouTube is frankly a better idea, (something I thought about myself). Reasons are simple there isn’t much out there, which is the one reason I post videos. I look for something you might find interesting, and in most cases that search finds nothing. Really there isn’t much out there, and I am being honest here. Then there is the big 2 who covers more reviews than me, that is exactly the same as me posting videos. It’s something they have stockpiled just in case they got nothing. You go to any furry podcast on YouTube at least 90% are comments.

But for the other things haters, haters and guess what more haters. Not to mention those who think you stole a story off of them threatening to sue your ass off. But when really you got it from a different source.

Believe me sometime when you cover furry news you get more than your share of crazies.

Good luck Furry Broadcast Network and I think you are going to need it.

Fursuit Contracts

Lawyers and Liquor.com recently did this article on using contracts when you have a fursuit made and they really get into detail point by point. Think about it, you going to hand over well over $1,000 to someone and you will not see the results for several months or even possible over a year. But they do make one good point, once the creator takes the money it is a contract and don’t deliver it’s fraud. It’s a good read, and I can’t wait until part 2 is posted.

Success vs. Haters

It seems last month when I told of how successful my furry bowling meet had been I got several messages from haters. Why? I really don’t know. But anyway a total of 12 was there yesterday and below is my favorite photo from the meet and I took it.

Despite some setbacks it seems my meet is growing every single meet seems to get bigger and bigger than the one before it. I was honestly asked “When will be doing a 2 a month?” The honest answer, it depends on how popular this becomes, and truthfully I don’t know the answer to that.

Since the post I made about the same event had gotten some hate messages last month for some unknown reason. I am now going to given the haters a warning in advance and later you can’t say you weren’t warned. Anyone sending me a hate post in relation to this article. Not only will the details of your message will become public, and so will your name, and I might even include your email address. You have been warned

Fursuits and Fursonas Video / Spy Seal

Vice.com did this wonderful video on this one man dealing with life as a furry. Everything we have to deal with every single day. LINK

Spy Seal by Rich Tommaso is something unique a classic spy adventure done in a style very similar to what Herge did for Tintin which you can see by this sample.

Spy Seal is set in a Cold War-era London that just happens to be populated entirely by anthropomorphic animals—like our protagonist Malcolm, a down-on-his-luck seal in a fetching turtleneck, or his artist bird-friend, Sylvia. But Spy Seal doesn’t really acknowledge that, it’s far too busy darting from conversations about the class system and violent revolution to commentary on modern art, from wolves conducting interpretive dance to the same wolves revealing themselves as Russian secret agents and pulling guns out for an assassination attempt mid-performance.
