Anthrocon 2024: When Does a Con Become Too Big?

I am positive I don’t have to go over everything Uncle Kage has said, except 1. Re title: I am very well aware that for the most part 3 fur cons are getting the same numbers as local anime cons. Around 17,000, so what is going to happen. Really it doesn’t take a someone rambling on that one day Comic Con in San Diego and a fur con somewhere are getting the same numbers. The one thing everyone is well aware of even at Furry Migration. “When Does a Fur Con Get Too Big?”

The fault doesn’t lay at the foot of the fur cons. They are just an event, that we plan for. The same can be said of both a friend and myself. We got the days off, the room, even our badges. Mind you my roommate is the very same one that got me to go to my very 1st fur con which just happens to be MFF.

Even they are talking about how MFF isn’t as fun as it use to be.

Sadly even I agree, I really enjoy going to these little cons more than I do MFF.

The reasons why is simple MFF is just TOOO CROWDED

My friend has openly talked about shifting to another con.

Meeting up with friends and showing off your fursuit. Has left the hotel, mainly those take place in less crowded areas of the convention center and outside, and this is despite on average we get 2 days of rain during the con.

I know MFF is MFF and is the ultimate goal for some. But maybe it’s time if you had it with the crowd, and that unfair hotel lottery. Maybe it’s time to shift to another fur con.

Frankly as I sit here and type this I am unsure what I will personally do about MFF in the upcoming years.

Major Changes Coming to Anthrocon

Summary of key points

  • Attendance numbers for Anthrocon 2025 will be monitored and, if necessary, will be capped should the number exceed the acceptable safety standards for our venue and our operations. Any confirmed registration cap will be announced in advance of pre-registration closure.
  • Thursday Registration will be pre-registration pick up only; no Thursday passes will be available, and on-site registration will start on the Friday of the event
  • Hotel Shuttles are being improved to accommodate wheelchair/ADA needs on all buses, rather than an on-call bus
  • The Fursuit Parade will be exploring a limit to participants, and standards for participation to help manage the parade safely (more details to be announced at a later date)

Anthrocon 2025 Opens Everything

Registration

Our top priority for Registration is to improve the speed and efficiency of our check-in experience. These efforts are aimed at improving the main issue that caused a cascade of other issues in 2024, which we’ve heard from attendees. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue exploring additional ways to improve the on-site experience!

  • Pre-registration Opening: Online Pre-registration for all levels will open on October 21st at 12 PM Eastern Time and remain open until June 15th, 2025. After that, on-site registrations can be purchased on the first day of the convention, July 3rd. Our Refund and Rollover Policy has also been updated to reflect our 2025 dates.
  • Prices: We will be updating our pricing to reflect a balance between managing the rising costs associated with growth and economic changes, but without going too high above the average convention pricing in the current environment.
  • Sponsorship availability and perks: To better reflect the services and perks we can provide for our different sponsor levels, we have updated the maximum memberships for each level – once they have sold out, we will not be adding any more upgraded levels. Additionally, the language for some of our sponsorship perks has been updated to better reflect the value that attendees can expect, as we continue to find balances between the services and perks we can provide with what attendees should expect as our convention grows.
  • Standards of Conduct: Our convention continues to adapt to the shifting environments and tolerance levels of our community, and we will be updating our attendee Standards of Conduct to reflect those changes for 2025. These changes will be reflected on our Standards of Conduct page by the time pre-registration opens.

It isn’t just Reg it’s everything from Dealers, Artists, Dancers you name it is open on Oct 21
