I swear the more I read up on social media about this writer’s group or that the more I am 100% certain they are not there to help new writer’s but instead kill any inspiration they might have had.
It doesn’t matter the group or where they happen to be found the story is always the same. A new writer joins asking for tips and gentle helpful criticism. But what do they find? Some saying they should kill themselves for the crime of placing a comma in the wrong place. Really I wish I was joking but that is based upon my own experience.
Even the published authors will admit they killed a brilliant piece of work in one of these groups because they thought it would hurt their career. Furry drama I say is worse in writer’s group than anywhere else.
Do I recommend even looking for one? HELL NO, my suggestion is to check out both YouTube and various sites for tips and suggestions, and if you can go to a new writer’s panel at your closest convention. Even if they are talking about writing Manga a good writer can adapt what they heard and use it towards their own advantage.
What helps for me is a site that converts text to speech sometimes hearing something you wrote, you can judge yourself the quality.
