BoJack Horseman Series Finale Review

I think these last 8 episodes of what has been a truly great series, frankly has been the hardest to watch. I know some have said these episodes have dealt with mental illness, but I think they are confusing mental illness with the harsh reality of whom these characters are. I have always said, people have both light and dark sides and I am not referring to Star Wars. It’s just we have the side the public sees, then there is our private side. That sometimes we dare not reveal to the world, let alone our friends and our employers. This is really what we were seeing. Like Diane always thinking she would be the next great writer and only being able to come up with a kids book. Or Mr. Peanutbutter winding up alone and seeing in his own way what he really is, the same could be said of all the characters. They are who they are and nothing will ever change that.

I will fully admit it actually hurts to watch the last 8 episodes. I have so many good memories of this series I know I will be rewatching on Netflix over and over again. Maybe secretly hoping that they do one last season…only time will tell if that ever happens.
Without getting into spoilers that episode The View from Halfway Down. I more think we are exploring BoJack’s dream and the reality of living life taking huge amounts of booze and drugs knowing that one day your number will be up. After all, they have only been talking about that dream for the previous 6 episodes.

As strange as this sounds I had a similar dream just before my mother died of a stroke. I saw things I have never been able to tell anyone, or ever will. So I think I understand that more than most people.

As to the very last episode…Nice While It Lasted. Which takes place around Princess Caroline Wedding. What do we see? The characters solving their own issues. So was social media and some YouTube vids right about BoJack in the end? In my opinion, they left it open for another season, with very little to set up.

Beyond that would be a spoiler.

In addition BoJack Horseman is one of the truly great animated series that has ever been made. I personally place it at #2 just behind Avatar The Last Airbender on the list of truly amazing animated series of all time.
